Proposal
August 28th 2009
There were literal and metaphorical road blocks at every turn, beginning with asking for permission. First, a time zone barrier of 19 hours was between me and Emma's dad, Steve. Undeterred I began writing an e-mail to ask for his blessing. Naturally, the Internet connection at our house cut out as I headed for the "Send" button. Once permission was obtained I made plans to propose at Dawson Creek Park, our favorite place to spend time together. Late August also happens to be when the Hillsboro Air Show takes place. In the morning I asked Emma if she would like to go to the park and got an understandable "No" as it was an overcast and drizzly day. After some convincing we made our way to the park. The road which leads to our park was closed for the Air Show so we stopped to take some of it in. And so I could do some restrategizing. I managed to find a road that led inside the park from another direction. We sat together under the Air Force Thunderbirds as I gathered the courage to pop the question. I gave her the ring and rain drops began falling on us.
